National Take a Hike Day | November 17th 2016

If you've been following along on my personal blog Our Adventure with Boys for any amount of time you know that we are a family that loves the outdoors.  I grew up in a family that truly valued the outdoors. My mom was a naturalist at a local state park and my dad frequently took us on hikes or three wheeler rides through the woods. When Wes and I were dating, hiking was one of our favorite activities.

Not too long after having my own kids I realized that their childhood wonder seemed to come alive in the woods. Their fascination and curiosity about the things around them sparked joy in me in the midst of a very busy time of raising 4 little boys. So in honor of National Take a Hike Day I am sharing pictures from one of our favorite places to hike...the Fire Road off of Pot Spring Road.

I recently learned about Cotopaxi a company focused on inspiring people to explore the outdoors and live adventurously.  They place great emphasis on giving back, and sales of their adventure backpacks help to provide the most relief.

"Adventure helps people see the world and drives them to improve it. That’s why we’ve created Cotopaxi—a new outdoor company that funds sustainable poverty alleviation, moves people to do good, and inspires adventure through innovative outdoor products and experiences. Our unique business model enables our grantmaking in developing countries and represents a commitment to sustainable product design and charitable giving."

Seattle Adventuring...

We enjoyed exploring the city of Seattle so much. While I was in class at Click Away Wes drove to Mt Rainer one day and biked 40 miles around Seattle another day.

One day we took the ferry to Bainbridge and spent an hour or two exploring before driving to Olympia National Park to hike. It was beautiful beyond description. We were in awe of the trees and the lush green forest.

We spent a misty morning exploring the University of Washington Arboretum.
It was a blessing for us to have this time together without the kids but we can't wait to bring them back!
