Eli's Day at Work...

Work started at 8:45am...

he worked right through snack break...

he occasionally asked for assistance finding pieces
he did not however want help in placing legos...he took his job seriously

first finished product...all one piece legos at this point

then, after a mid-morning walk with his little brother and some lunch he decides to make another layer...
then he pauses for his afternoon nap...and then begins another creation...

and another one before dinner...

yes...he placed every single one of these pieces

Backyard Friends...

with this much snow our bird feeder has seen a lot of activity...we've been busy looking up the birds in our field guide...
European Starling...
Female Northern Cardinal
Purple Finch and friend...

we've also seen a Red-Bellied Woodpecker, a Blue Jay, and a Black Capped Chickadee. I saved the best picture for last though...
Micaiah's drawing of the woodpecker he saw working on a tree outside his bedroom window. We think it was a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker.

Ugly-Beautiful

A recent post by Ann Voskamp at Holy Experience (the one blog I faithfully follow) has challenged me to look deeply into the "ugly" in my life and begin to see the beauty. Check out this link if you get a chance...http://aholyexperience.com/2008/09/get-closer-to-ugly.html. So here I go...

ugly: baking soda paste to soothe fresh bee stings...

beautiful: a sketch by Micaiah 15 minutes prior to his "ugly" interacation with the bees...
I must say that I was very impressed...in the midst of the pain and crying Micaiah says through long sobs, "Is that bee dead?...as he remembers that they sting and then die he says..."I must of been stung by two bees!"

Drink anyone?

After mixing primary colors to paint/learn about the color wheel...Micaiah had his own idea for "mixing colors."

The fascination...

with the solar system continues! We received "The Secrets of Space" Magic School Bus science kit in the mail and Micaiah couldn't wait to create the solar system mobile. Here he is painting planet Earth...

painting Mars...

...the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars...

...more to follow soon I'm sure!

The end of baseball season...

Even though the games are over...Micaiah hasn't stopped thinking about baseball! Micaiah drew this picture yesterday morning...Brian Roberts #1 (1 B) is on the pitcher's mound and Micaiah #2 is batting at home plate (M 2).

While I chatted with a friend after lunch today he drew this one...the orange coloring is supposed to show you that the sun is shining and the brown is the bleachers.

It is so much fun to see his creative mind at work!

Solar System Art

Micaiah drew this picture after our President's Day field trip to the Air and Space Museum. This is a picture of the space shuttle Atlantis in orbit.

This is Micaiah's watercolor collage of the solar system. I had planned on doing this art project on something about spring but followed his lead and this is the result. He painted the sun and each planet and we taped them on his "night sky" background. He liked this watercolor activity so much he replicated it the next day.

During "rest time" the other day he took the stickers we had of the solar system and colored the sky around them.

As I was watching him paint his second watercolor solar system today I said..."Micaiah you're going to be an artist when you grow up!" His response..."No, I'm going to be an elephant trainer." Wow, I never would have guessed!
